A La Jolla Calico before release.

MO and Steve, up close on Bird Rock, Two Harbors. Steve is hoisting up a nice Calico before release. Try to be upwind when fishing this area, or deal with the smell!

View back at the mothership Islander, it is a good idea to carry a handheld VHF radio on these trips. They allow communication with the big boat and your fellow anglers. Note favorite Fishtrap lure ready to be deployed.

Mothership trips require moving all your equipment down the docks to the boat. Have all your gear ready to roll, like in this shot.

Kayak Mothership trips to our local California offshore islands is a great way to mix up your paddling destinations. The Islander runs these trips every year, and I highly recommend you get out on their boat and experience the adventure first hand. See www.islandersportfishing.com for all the details.

Sunrise on the water is my favorite time of day. LA/Ventura County Line, looking into the Santa Monica Bay.

Headed out to Rock Island, south of La Conchita, CA. Photo credit goes to Peter Otto, thanks for snaping the shot. Powler 15, rigged, and ready for action.

Looking at Ship Rock from Bird Rock,MO,Jas,and Steve, off in the glass. November is a great time to head over, just watch the weather and go on short notice. No crowds, and usually very good fishing with epic Southern California weather!

Nice Malibu White Seabass from back in the day. Still my largest rod&reel WSB off the kayak! Fish was landed durring an epic bite that lasted about a week. Landed using 15 lb test on a Cacutta 400s w/ Graftech 7' light, my normal bass setup, 5" White Fishtrap on 1 oz. Chrome head, fight lasted 45 minutes, what a battle!

Super Catalina Calico 7+ lbs. Kayaks are the best way to fish this island. Slow trolling a 5" Fishtrap with a 3/4 oz. Head behind the yak, about 50'-75',while edging the kelpline is a no brainer. Just get ready to pull the big ones out of the kelp!

Another LJ Yellowtail, photo courtesy of Paul Lebowitz. This was on tourney day, but not big enough to take any prizes. Still made some great sashimi!
