Happy New Year, now if the weather would cooperate we could get out a do a little productive fishing! Watch the post rain fishing in Southern California, most of the coastal waters are heavily polluted after big rains, so try to avoid water contact for a least a week following a big rain. Time to service your gear, change line, and get ready for the next good winter window. See you on the water in 2008. TL Rhino

Any day on the water is a good day, especially when the weather and fish cooperate. It has been many months since I last fished the reef in Carpenteria, so I wasted no time heading straight to my favorite spot on the reef.First couple casts were empty, but I figured it out early on, light line 8Lb, a trusty 5" Fishtrap #65. I managed to get 5 scoring Sandbass and a scoring Chocolate Rockfish. Good enough for a 1st place finish, and a new Prowler 13 Angler edition in Olive. Second place was taken by Mark Pierpont, and third place was taken by Mark Olsen. Special thanks to United Anglers for the event, and to all the sponsors. They are planing to do more of these event in the coming year so stay tuned, they promised to give us more warning for the next one.Happy Holidays to All! See you on the water in 2008. TL Rhino

Fall weather is here with cooler water temps and smaller weather windows. I have been unable to paddle the last few months due to a fish spine infection in my left hand. Not a fun experience, and though the rockfish made a great dinner, he sure got the last laugh on me! Finally back in paddling condition the hand is ready for what ever fall dishes out. TL Rhino

Summer is finally in full swing and the warm waters on the coast and large surf are part of the launching from shore equation. Have had the pleasure of paddling the newest offering from Ocean Kayak the Prowler Trident 15. I had a small part in the design of this kayak and think it is the best fishing kayak out on the market today. Everything the serious kayak angler needs is in the new kayak.Sonar ready for a quick and easy hook up, great stability, rod stowage from your seat, as well as great capacity for live bait and a dry ride. Be sure to test paddle one with me or at your nearest Ocean Kayak dealer, you will not be disappointed! Get out and wet a line, TL Rhino

April has seen a big chill off our coast. Wind has turned the water over and colder water prevails all along the inshore. Fished the 33RD MDR Halibut Derby, first time kayakers were allowed to fish and we sure did struggle in the 53 degree water. While a dozen or so halibut were caught for the yak crew, none was over the minimum Derby size limit of 26".Better luck next year! Get out and wet a line! TL Rhino
