Headed up to Mammoth with family and all the yak gear. We camped and fished the Twin Lakes for limits of stocker trout. I fished lures from the yak, kids killed it from shore at the inlet with Salmon eggs. Favorite lure for me was and is the gold 1/4 oz Kastmaster with gold laser paper. One Alpers landed while we were there, twilight fish was about 8 lbs. Did one day at Silver lake, more limits and visited some new friends with a cabin on the lake, wow is it sweet.Drive home we got hit buy a little rain. Beautiful weekend, get up there and enjoy! June is heating up quickley, inshore and offshore at our local islands. Catalina has reports of Yellowtail and the elusive White Seabass, and the coast has had a great pick on Halibut as of late. Grab your yak and hit the coast or jump on a guided trip with me out at Catalina island staying in Two Harbors Tent Cabins. The time is now to get out and soak a bait or throw your favorite lure, the fish are waiting for you!

Will the June gloom in May ever be gone? No matter as the fish are on the move inshore, bass are snapping and the Halibut and White Seabass are close behind. Be sure to make bait and fish your biggest live bait in the hope of connecting with a White Seabass, or drop that big bait down on a dropper loop for a large flattie. Catalina trips are filling fast so sign up and join us for a memorable trip kayak fishing Catalina Island on the West End. Surf safety clinics are also available, call for sign ups. See you on the water. TL Rhino

Looks like we have some red tide back on the inshore waters, from Ventura and down through Malibu. Pick your clean water spots, Halibut and Bass, soon to be followed by White Seabass.Who knows we may even have a visit from the Salmon soon. New dates for Catalina, be sure to get on one of these trips.

With the Fred Hall fishing show behind me it signals the start of my guiding season. My trips are posted on the January News post. Be sure to sign up for a Catalina trip or join me on a Thresher outing, or join me on a surf clinic to practice the fine art of surf launching and landing.White Seabass are getting active, and following a few good weather days the halibut will also join in the fun. Speaking of fun, we all had a blast at the 3rd Anuall Kayak Sportfishing.com Tournament in Dana Point. I was not on my game, and the weather was cold and damp, but it did not stop the worlds largest kayak tournament from playing out. Congrats to the winners and look forward to next years event. Great job by Jason and crew. If you missed it this year all I can say is sign up early next year!! See you on the water. TL Rhino
